    Also: lizard!

When I was fifteen, my father thought I knew nothing. When I was twenty-five, I was amazed by how little he thought I'd learned in such a long time.

Back down the valley and around on the higher path:

... and we had lunch in the pass with a view across the Imlil valley:

Rounding the corner of the road down there on the right gives a view up the valley to where we're going:

8km away and 2km up, the actual summit is just out of sight behind the front shoulder, but that front shoulder is high enough to give a pretty good idea of what we're taking on.
Next day, we're off up to base camp, leaving excess weight in the hotel with the quitter.

Partway up is the shrine at Chamharouch:
When I was fifteen, my father thought I knew nothing. When I was twenty-five, I was amazed by how little he thought I'd learned in such a long time.

The view of Toubkal gets clearer as we ascend and the vegetation gets sparser:

Base camp is in quite a setting:

... with quite a view back down before you reach it:

... or even after you reach it:

Also quite a view of the plan for the next day:

        ... and a pretty waterfall:

So, yes, this eagle really did clasp the crag with crooked hands, close to the Sun in distant lands.
A short walk from the summit gives a view back down to where we're having dinner:

              Snow-patch. Slippery? Just slippery enough:

              Timing!
              Baby goats:

Last day: depart any time. Well pffft. I had two days to kill before my cheap flight home. Cooking school!
Cooking school run by a Dutch woman, meeting at the Cafe de France and including samosas ... Moroccan, much?
                Anyway, spice shop:

                Little kiosk shop:

The cooking school uses a Riad, a traditional one-storey hollow-square house:

They gave us mint tea and bottled water in a shady room:

There are other gardens. West of the big mosque is the Garden of Princess Goodnight. That I had to check out.

Next day, last day, the Jardin Menara, out west near the airport, turned out to be a grid-pattern of olive trees, so a nice place for a picnic and to let the kdis run around but not so great for two bored Brits. In the middle, though, is a big pool of water with a pavillion you can visit for about 80p:

I know it's three years later, but these are some gorgeous pictures!
