  • D*C Thursday meetup?

I'd love to get together with everyone before the insanity starts, but given that the Vortex has been less hospitable, I'd like to suggest the Marriott restaurant as someplace easy to get to with affordable foods, or even a Thursday night pool party.
    Ideas, opinions?

What happened that they're less than hospitable? Mind you, I wasn't there last year so I don't know why. But I'm good for whereever.

I remember the Vortex being very hospitable last year, we just need to book our outting there early: wouldn't mind heading there again on Thurs. The Marriot/Hyatt weren't exactly cheap food wise, from what I remember. I'm up for anything Thursday.

To be fair, there was a lot of miscommunication on when your party would get there. The Vortex doesn't seat parties unless everyone is there. I like the Vortex but I had a lot more fun at the original one (has the laughing skull entrance) which is a couple of miles away from the hotel.

Any Atlanteans got suggestions of places to go for ~20-30 people? I agree, the major hotels are pricey. Is Trader Vic's still around? Have never been there before but I've heard good feedback about it.

there was this burger place that Frag and I after folks left on Monday a couple years ago. I can't remember the name of it. But it might work. Maybe Frag knows the place.

I wouldn't say no to a new place, but the food is phenomenal. It's downtown Atlanta on a holiday weekend. There are simply a lot of folk coming and going.

oooh, Uh, yeah....I don't recommend the varsity, unless you all expect me to keep you all from getting mugged. Lots o'violence and cops there last year at D*C if I remember correctly. Or at least every time I drove by.

Thinking back I do think it was the Tuesday morning - midday when we went to it, so it was quiet enough. The food was cheap and cheerful though.

I'll be flying in on Thursday night (Landing about 7:20) so I don't think I'll be making the meetup either way. In saying that I am working on getting my Cell phone re-activated so I can get in contact with you fine folks once I'm there.

They do have no contract phones with texting etc for about $5o. Haven't used them, but it might be less than an international plan.

That's what Mary and I use. you pay $50 for th ephone, get enough airtime to last the con.
The only downside is a new number every damn time

If we did the Vortex a couple miles away, who will have rides? Mike and I will be able to fit one extra in our car and maybe on skinny person who wants to squeeze in between Moo and said extra person.
