Katsucon 2013 is this weekend. I'm not a huge anime fan but I've always had fun at this con. It has roughly 12K attendees, a large artist alley and dealers room, draws in some top notch cosplayers (Yaya Han, Jessica Nigri, Meghan Marie, etc.), and puts on some good concerts and panels.
If you happen to be in the DC area this weekend, I'd happily recommend attending or even day-tripping to the con. The Gaylord (yeah, I snicker at that name, too) Resort is an awesome hotel/convention center with a great view of Washington, DC, across the Potomac. It really reminds me of being an a terrarium. Wow, I sound like an advert for them.
