Well, if Jesus himself doesn't know...

Got a Unicorn friend on another forum, let me ask him...

regarding the easter bunny, it's really pretty simple: mutant bunny from mars ressurected him with their life rays and opened the tumb with grenades.

Incidentally, their grenades are egg shaped. thus, to celebrate their help in the saving of the world and god's creation, we honor them every year with chocolate eggs.

Well, at least it's more believable than Jesus as a vampire hunter.

I think Poe did a good job in explaining the rabbit....

As for the Unicorn...I'm pretty sure I can find a connection, involving purity, and magic, but really, it just makes my hair hurt.

I remember hearing about it before.. But I don't remember the explanation. And the only story about the bunny that I know isn't xtian, but there is an egg dying story that is, so I guess it counts? *wanders off*

So many young teenage girls were devoutly religious and didn't even know it.

The unicorn, like many things, was a pagan thingo that was adopted to christianity during the "Late Antiquity"

The pagan myth that the unicorn could only be tamed by a virgin maiden of virtue was converted symbolically to stand for Jesus' relationship with the Virgin Mary.

Or at least thats my understanding of it, Im not a scholar.

According to my unicorn friend, the first recorded evidence of the unicorn's existance was in 389 BC, by the greek historian Ctesias, based on the stories of travellers from India.

So unless the dudes linking unicorns and Jessu smoked the same herbs than these travelers, I don't see the connection.

Then again, Jesus being the son of god he could perfectly have traveled in time to meet unicorns. or something.

Aye, the link is purely symbolic afterthought placed over the original mythos

Bascially another case of the choir-rapist in the purple dress hijacking someone else's cool ideas?

Similar to the english language taking other languages into back alleyways and mugging then

I think of that the other way round. Apart from the "foreign" restaurants, most of our linguistic idiosyncracies are from invasions with varying degrees of success up to and including 1066. They're more like the diseases picked up from being dragged into too many alleys. :-P
