That's the one thing that killed me when coming to study in the US: the slide shows. In France we took notes on everything, because no handouts and not slides: the teachers talked, drew on the board as he talked, erased as he talked, and drew again as he talked.
you take notes, and draw, at the same time. It's tough, but that way you can't nod off. No way.
except in crappy/easy classes, that is.
anyway, that's my two bits, kinda backing Seolta: find a way to force you to take notes constantly. Having to write while paying attention to the teacher's babble will keep you awake.

*snicker* Ah, one of those...had a similar problem in my "Arts of the Americas" and "Arts of the Pacific" classes...room was generally warm, chairs were padded and comfy, and the lights were frequently out due to slide-watching, so there was always at least one student nodding off during class. One thing that may help with both the studying/grades and the staying awake is to include sketches from the slides in your notes...it's a trick I picked up from a studio-major friend my first semester. It helps you associate the image with that part of the notes, and chances are any images and slides included in your tests will be ones you've seen before in class.

Damnit now look what you've done Al...I'm all teary eyed the first time reading that.
I've been thinking along the same lines anyway, I've received a $10,000 a year ($40,000 total) scholarship and my grampa would have been over the moon if he was around to hear it.

Hi Al. I know I've been gone a long time. I've been distracted. And I figure ya'll can give me a good kick in the ass once the word gets out I'm doing poorly in Art History and maybe English.
I suck hardcore at motivation!

Psh, I'll talk my ass off about my issues. Especially if you ask me questions and sound interested.
But I try not to most of the time cuz I hate it when people do that and they sound like they are just looking for attention and pity.

You can talk openly about issues that you have but in a roundabout way?
I can't talk about anything that's affected me unless I'm really angry/frustrated/scared/sad and people are just stupid. I just go "<insert half-assed explaination>" and when people look confused I change the subject.
You strange strange, STRANGE brave people.

Well yeah but it's a bit different in a classroom where you aren't talking about your issues specifically, just an issue in general.

Which ,come to think of it, is probably an issue in and of itself.
