          Two more rules:

Cover from sight does not equal cover from fire. In other words, someone who can't see you could hit you and you could hit someone you can't see.

Conversely, clear line of sight does not equal clear line of fire. If you're using a telescopic sight, it's awfully easy to have a beautifully clear picture of a target, track it, squeeze off a shot ... and get a faceful of fragments from the impact on a solid wall that was blocking the barrel but not the scope.

Unused pellet and 3 pieces that came back because I got that wrong.
Waste of a pellet and a chance at the varmint in question.

Someday, I'm going to own a rifle. My husband wants an AR-15, but he's military. He comes home from the field and tells me what toys he got to play with. My daughter was born on a military base with the sound of artillery in the background.

My uncle taught me to shoot growing up.

I love guns, and respect them.

Without even googling it, that sounds like a long-range head-burster. 7.62x54mm?

I thought for a while that we should have gone with something more like 6x60 thatn 5.56x45, then I found out there already was a 6x60mm and it was pretty good.

Still, if we're going to get together and buy JennieB one we should make sure it's one with which she hits her target and nothing else or puts one into each target then two into the 7-ring on each target fast at 10m, depending how many hands she's using to hold it. .32ACP on-target is a lot more effective than a .50AE that missed.

                *googles*

                Oh hey, isn't that ... ?

                Yes, yes it is.

Is that the real-life version of Shea's KittenGun?

Or just shells the same general size?

the kitten gun is smaller. that's way to big for me to carry around like the kitten gun. the kitten gun is kinda like that but like half that size.

that looks like a 20mm Anti Tank rifle, possibly a Solothurn or Lahti (although at first i thought it was a mockup of Seras Victoria's 30mm Harkonen cannon) *YEAH, i watch Hellsing, you gotta problem with that ?*

If it were a mockup, it would be a bad one.

*YEAH, I watch it too. Something wrong with that?*

A sword works pretty well too.

I once stopped a guy trying to break into one of my windows by kicking open the door to that room weilding a five and a half foot long Zwihander, and he disappeared fairly quickly, leaving a tail of pee behind him (luckily all outdoors). Of course the fact that I was standing there, backlit with nothing on but my underwear probably helped scare the piss out of him, but the sword was the thing reflecting the hall light into his very frightened eyes.

Of course, it's a damn good thing that I'm trained in the use of these items, but the fear factor is pretty sweet.

This having been said, if a person drawns a gun on me, the likelihood that I'll have one of these items on hand is only about 60%, but I'm cool with that.
This guy talks a lot of good sense for a troll. I can't disagree with anything he says. People tend to having a fear of sharp pointy things on a basic level, as if they will be more dead if cut to bits than if they are shot. Some head shrinker could explain why but who cares as long as it works.

Now I can do some expounding on specifics since he opened the can of worms I place the blame on him if anyone gets bored reading. No matter where you live self-defense and stuff protection is important it is not just your right but your responsablity. If you cower and let somone get away with it then they will be enboldened and will do it again. Stop them now stop them fast and stop them so hard that any other thug that hears about it will think "Dang that is a really stupid thing to do. Doing that will get you messed up."

                              The basics

Be comfortable with weapons your and your potential threat. If you are not comfortable with the idea of and use of a gun when you see somone with agun you will think "Gah they have a gun!" and at that point you go from acting to reacting. That is bad. If however you can keep your head then you can access the situation and act appropiately. Practice practice practice whatever your weapon of choice know it well and know you can use it well.

I will stop now before I go into a long drawn out rant.

Actually, the first bit of your post reminded me of the opening scene of Snow Crash, where the Deliverator is narrating the internal debate of sword vs gun.
